About Computer Foot Pedals
The software necessary to operate this foot pedal is provided on The SUM Program CD-ROM from Health Professions Institute or the Medical Transcription Interactive CD-ROM from Prentice Hall.
Transcription pedal: No separate drivers or any other software is required.
Note: You must have the latest version of the SUM Program or MT Interactive software installed (2.0 or higher). Free upgrades are available; see below.
Installing the USB Foot Pedal (IN-USB):
Plug the USB foot pedal directly into an open USB port on your PC. No additional setup is necessary; the foot pedal will be recognized automatically as long as your PC has full USB support and your SUM or MTI software is version 2.0 or higher. Note that USB is not supported by Windows NT or by most releases of Windows 95. USB ports on PC's that are more than 4 years old may be of too low a voltage to recognize an unpowered device like a foot pedal. See Foot Pedal Setup FAQ's in the program Help file for troubleshooting suggestions, or contact the appropriate technical support group; see below.
Obtaining a Free Upgrade for Your Software
Free upgrades are available on HPI's Web site at www.hpisum.com. Click on Free Downloads. It is best to uninstall any previously installed versions first (click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, and Add/Remove Programs). After the previous version is uninstalled, click on the upgrade and choose Save or Save to Disk and download it to your computer's desktop. Then click on it to install it, following the prompts. An error during installation means the download was incomplete. Try downloading again before asking for technical support. Once the upgrade is installed, the new version number will be visible in the lower left hand corner of the main screen or click Help and then About from the word processing screen.
